The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade honoured the late President Dr. Hage Geingob, who served as the minister from 2008 to 2012, for his significant contributions to expanding Namibia's trade and industrial initiatives.

The Ministry hosted a candlelight vigil to celebrate the life and legacy of the late President.

Minister Lucia Iipumbu addressed the mourners and narrated the achievements of the late President during his time as the Minister of the then Trade and Industry Ministry, which has since been renamed the Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade.

"We must not overlook his significant contributions in various capacities, including his tenure as the Minister of Trade and Industry. It was in this role that Dr. Geingob demonstrated his unwavering commitment to advancing economic development, industrialisation, trade promotion while fostering sustainable investments and international cooperation."

Iipumbu also recognised the late President for selecting youthful leaders during his tenure.

"I stand here today as one of the youthful ministers appointed by him, which demonstrates the trust he had in the younger generation of leadership. I am able to carry out my work with ease, given his mentorship and coaching."

Dr. Geingob played a pivotal role in shaping the trade and industrial policy regime of Namibia, and it was during his tenure that the first industrial policy for Namibia was developed."

Iipumbu also pointed out that the late Dr. Geingob's efforts to enhance trade and investment relations, negotiate mutually beneficial agreements, and foster opportunities for Namibian businesses will be recognised as foundational elements of his legacy.

Iipumbu concluded her words of sympathy with a heartfelt hymn, and those grieving joined in.
