Mayeyi Chief Shikati Boniface Shufu says news of the death of President Hage Geingob has not sunk in.

Shufu says many of his followers were still looking forward to the final year of his leadership.

Mayeyi Chief Shikati Boniface Shufu says the death of President Geingob was shocking to many in his community, noting that the late President Geingob will be remembered for his commitment to good governance at all levels of government, including in the affairs of traditional authorities.

Shikati Shufu says President Geingob's death is a loss to all Namibians, Africans, and the world because he was an exemplary leader who preached peace, unity, and progress for all.

"Immediately after we heard of the sad news, I summoned all Indunas to reason together, and we were all heartbroken. I want to tell the government that I and my community are grieving together with you, including his wife, children, and extended family members. Be strengthened by the fact that he was indeed a unifier who needed all Namibians to live in the same house. I know the president very well, as I worked with him as a traditional leader on many developmental issues that needed my input, starting when he was prime minister and taking over the presidency. He was truly ours."

Another district headman who joined Shikati Shufu in remembering the late President Geingob is Austin Mukorufu, who is saddened by the loss of a sitting president.

"I am heartbroken to the core, I cannot explain the feeling that I have. The first time a sitting president passes away, we do not even know how to handle the situation, but I must also say that during my tenure as Executive Director of the Swapo Party, I worked closely with the president, the leader, and the vice president, as well as with the Secretary General and Cde Marco Hausiku in the last four years. Very hard-working person, a very demanding person of his own class that I have described here."

The Mayeyi Traditional Authority stressed that Namibia had lost a wise and valiant leader dedicated to the preservation of democracy, the safety of its people, and a free world.
