Kunene Governor Marius Sheya says the government's drought mitigation programme has been a relief to the farmers.

Sheya was speaking at the handover of livestock, stoves, and water-softening borehole technologies at Khorixas auction kraal in the Kunene Region.

Sheya applauded the success measures of the IREMA project under the Environmental Investment Fund, which has been at the forefront of assisting farmers for over eight years.

At Khorixas, a total of 17 beneficiaries received goats for breeding and stoves, including vaccines, at an estimated value of N$1.5 million.

To date, the project has benefited 88 people in terms of the goat revolving scheme, in which the farmer enters into an agreement with the government to ensure that goats are used for the intended purpose.

As per the revolving agreement, the beneficiaries are expected to revolve the 20 goats within 5 years.
