Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, will lead a delegation of Members of Parliament to the 148th IPU Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, from March 23 to 27, 2024, with a focus on international cooperation, peacebuilding, and addressing pressing global challenges. 

Professor Katjivivi will deliver a statement during the General Debate at the Assembly under the theme "Parliamentary Diplomacy: Building Bridges for Peace and Understanding".

MPs will participate in meetings of IPU statutory bodies, such as the Governing Council and Standing Committees, including Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and on Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young MPs.

Professor Katjavivi will be part of the IPU Task Force for the Peaceful Resolution of the War in Ukraine. 

The Task Force will hear from Members of Parliament from both the Russian Federation and Ukraine separately during the Assembly. 

The Task Force's mandate is to promote dialogue in support of peacebuilding efforts and in strict observance of the UN Charter and the principles of international law, including national sovereignty.

The Committee on Middle East Questions will consider what parliamentary action to take regarding the conflict in Gaza that has resulted in a humanitarian crisis.
