President Mbumba reiterates retirement plans

President Nangolo Mbumba says his decision to retire at the end of his presidential term was taken a long time ago.

At his swearing-in on February 4th this year, Dr. Mbumba made it clear that he would not be available for political office after finishing his presidential term.

Namibians honour late President Geingob

Six months after the death of President Hage Geingob, who would have celebrated his 83rd birthday today, Namibians gathered at Heroes' Acre for a remembrance ceremony.
 
Dr. Geingob, Namibia's third president, died on February 4th this year.

Women's representation in parliament worldwide increases

Women's representation in parliament worldwide has increased slightly from 26.5% to 26.9% this year. 

These statistics were collected after over 60 parliaments in 52 countries held their parliamentary elections in 2023. 

The sub-Saharan Africa region accounts for the third highest, at over 27%. 

Prof. Katjavivi and delegation at attend 148th IPU Assembly

Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, will lead a delegation of Members of Parliament to the 148th IPU Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, from March 23 to 27, 2024, with a focus on international cooperation, peacebuilding, and addressing pressing global challenges. 

National Assembly unveils strategic plan

The National Assembly unveiled its strategic plan for 2023–2027, building upon the achievements of the previous strategic plan for 2018–2020.

The aim of the plan is to enhance the core pillars of the National Assembly, namely lawmaking, representing the people, oversight visits, and fiscal stewardship.
