Namibia University of Science and Technology chancellor, Professor Peter Katjavivi, officially inaugurated the NUST Lüderitz Research Satellite Campus.

Professor Katjavivi said the launch of the campus is a demonstration of how a public university can strategically align its programmes to national imperatives.

Professor Katjavivi commended NUST management for opening the campus and developing short courses that will support the necessary skills required for the green hydrogen industry.

The discovery of oil and gas and the development of green hydrogen necessitated institutions of higher learning to develop tailor-made programmes with the focus on education, research, and innovation in critical areas within the blue and green economy and the oil and gas sectors.

"Let us commit to nurturing the culture of learning, exploration, and growth that transcends the boundaries and transforms the lives of our people. It is not just a small step; it is a gigantic step that helps us to regroup and do something that is so important not only for the region but also for Namibia, but what is going to come out of the development of this campus will touch the hearts of many other people who might not necessarily be located here."

The Minister of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Itah Kandjii-Murangi, believes the opening of the campus will enable the institution to lead Namibia's Science and Technology Parks for oil and gas prospects.

"Through this NUST Lüderitz Research Campus, the government expects to see widened access into targeted higher education programmes of an adaptive and responsive higher education system. It is critical that programmes at this campus speak to the new developments and discoveries that are to come."

||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick and NUST Vice-Chancellor Dr. Erold Naomab witnessed the opening of the campus.

"The government recognises that education is a cornerstone for sustainable development and economic growth; our deliberate investment in education advancement in the ||Kharas Region is aimed at bringing opportunities closer to our citizens."

"We want Lüderitz to become a student-centred town the first of it's kind in Namibia where education opportunity and community go hand in hand," said NUST vice chancellor, Dr. Erold Naomab.

NUST Lüderitz Research Satellite Campus is housed in the Lüderitz Old Power Station.
