The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Ipumbu Shiimi, highlighted the country's active participation in the open budget survey since 2010, led by the International Budget Partnership.
He emphasised that Namibia's participation aims to ensure transparency in budgeting processes.
He was responding to concerns raised by members of Parliament regarding fiscal transparency and public involvement.
Shiimi exuded confidence, affirming that his ministry anticipates favourable outcomes from the 2022 Open Budget Survey, foreseeing enhancements across multiple fronts.
With unwavering determination, he declared the ministry's steadfast commitment to sustaining this upward trajectory and continuous improvement.
"Namibia was ranked 72 out of 120 countries in 2010, scoring 42% in budget transparency. One of the pillars being measured is public consultation. Although Namibia has performed poorly in this indicator, the Ministry has strengthened its efforts in public consultations. In 2022, consultations were held across the country, starting with the parliament, and were taken to the regions, including civil society and business communities."
