The campaign for the presidency of the National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) is in full swing.

One of the candidates for the NUDO Presidency, Joseph Kauandenge, who is the current Secretary General, says he is in the race to advance the youth agenda.

Hitting the campaign trail, Kauandenge headlined a rally in Windhoek under the banner "It's our time."

The party's secretary-general pointed out that it is time for young people to take up space in the political domain and take over leadership.

He declared that the youth are ready to lead, citing the example of 44-year-old Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who became Africa's youngest elected president recently.

This, too, he stated, is possible for Namibia.

"We should not and cannot allow people who have been leading this party since the timely memorial to continue leading it. We want young people to lead as well. If it's one thing to see today, it's that I'm always able to connect with everyone on the ground, even those people everyone else discards and thinks are their nobody. I can connect with them!"

Kauandenge said he would like to push for NUDO's total transformation once he is elected president.

"For it to be viable, for it to be able to compete on an equal footing with every other political party, we need to re-engineer the political party called NUDO in order to respond to the needs and aspirations of our people."

The party's elective congress is slated for April 27th.

Kauandenge is contesting the position of NUDO President with the incumbent Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue, who became the first Namibian female to lead a political movement when she was elected in March 2019.
