The Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, has urged the tourism industry and reservation services to up their service delivery to grow the industry.
Shifeta said this during the opening of the 2024 Namibia Tourism Expo.
Pohamba says tourism-related industries such as accommodation establishments, transport, food and beverage services, and travel agencies cannot afford to offer poor services.
He says the expo is an opportunity for exhibitors to showcase their products and increase tourism activities.
"What I am saying here is that our entities owned by the state must be up to the standards of others who are privately owned. If there is a lodge there and the entity is owned by the state, the state must be the same. I am tired of being called. Here in Etosha, there is no running water, there is no what, the birds are small, and you must look at the other lodges that are there. The competition is open, but that doesn't mean when you are in the park, you can now disappoint clients."
The Minister further called on the tourism sector, the youth, and communities to play their part by absorbing business opportunities within the Kavango-Zambezi Trans-Frontier Conservation Area.
The expo is a private-public partnership that aims to showcase Namibia's admired tourism strides.
The Executive Director of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area Secretariat, Nyambe Nyambe, highlighted some of the recent developments related to transboundary tourism.
This year, the Tourism Expo is celebrated under the theme" beyond borders."
The Expo brought together countries such as Zambia, Angola, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia.
