The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform has appointed an eight-member Veterinary Council of Namibia board.

The Veterinary Council of Namibia is a statutory body that is responsible for regulating the standards of veterinary and veterinary para-professions in the country.
 
The regulations of these professions are to ensure that the quality of veterinary care available to the public is up to standard and that both veterinarians and para-professionals are suitably qualified and competent to perform their functions within the scope of the profession, especially in the area of veterinary care for companion animals.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Anna Shiweda, says the standards in the veterinary profession should be for the country to continue making beef as an export product of high quality.
 
"The Council has, amongst others, the following functions: to regulate the practice of the veterinary profession and para-veterinary professions and the registration of persons. Practicing such professions. To determine the minimum standards of tuition and training required for degrees, diplomas, and certificates entitling the holders thereof to be registered to practice the veterinary profession and para-veterinary professions. To exercise effective control over the professional conduct of persons practicing the veterinary profession and para-veterinary professions. To determine the standards of professional conduct of persons practicing the veterinary profession and para-veterinary professions."


The new board members are Dr. Alexandra Marko, Dr. Veronica Amunyela, Sune de Klerk, Dr. Detlef Marggraff, Anna Marais, Dr. Paul Set, Malaika Liesel Thyrid Matheus, and Emmanuel Matheus.

On behalf of the new board members, Anna Marais promised to serve to the best of their ability. 
 
"I think we will understand the responsibility of what is signed by us, and we will do our very best to uphold the Namibian law."
 
This marks the fourth Namibian Veterinary Council appointment, of which members will serve for a period of three years
 
The ministry is yet to appoint the chairperson and the deputy.
