The community of Stampriet became the latest beneficiaries of the Anglo-American Foundation Namibia, which constructed a fully-fledged early childhood development centre.
The centre boasts four classrooms, five toilets, a storeroom, a kitchen, and a playground.
Sara Plaaitjie has been the principal of Wisdom Kids Preschool since 2017.
Together with other preschool teachers, they faced problems due to a lack of learning material and inadequate structures, which are not conducive for preschool children.
Plaatjie is among six educators at the newly opened N$2.5 million Stampriet Community Development Centre, which caters for 123 children from the Stampriet's estimated total population of 3,380.
Opening the centre, Councillor of Mariental Rural, Deensia Swartbooi, thanked the Anglo-American Foundation Namibia and education stakeholders on behalf of the Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare, Doreen Sioka.
The Minister further urged the other private companies to invest in improving communities' livelihoods through their corporate social responsibility.
Anglo-American Foundation Namibia has built 17 community development centres across Namibia for the past 10 years and pledged to upgrade all centres to a required standard.
Parents were also encouraged to enrol their children, including those with disabilities, in order to provide them with opportunities to play and develop skills that will prepare them for primary school and their journey towards becoming productive citizens through various professions.
