Official talks between Namibia and Botswana, led by President Nangolo Mbumba and visiting President Mokgweetsi Masisi, concluded in Swakopmund this afternoon with a sense that the engagement led to the further strengthening of ties between the two neighbouring countries.
President Mbumba remembered Botswana and President Masisi's solidarity and support during the passing of the late President Hage Geingob. Dr. Mbumba also underscored the importance of regular dialogue and interaction between Namibia and Botswana.
"Namibia and Botswana share a longstanding history of cooperation, rooted in mutual respect and shared aspirations for regional development and prosperity. Today, we stand united in our commitment to strengthen the excellent bilateral relations that have defined our partnership over the years."
President Masisi appreciated the warm and robust hospitality extended to him and his delegation during his stay.
Following the opening session, the talks continued behind closed doors, where the delegations discussed economic cooperation, regional security, environmental conservation, and cultural exchanges.
President Masisi, in his closing statement, urged ministers and senior officials to conclude all outstanding agreements and memoranda of understanding quickly.
"In Botswana, we have committed to a knowledge-based economy, be it built, as individual projects, or as joint collaborative initiatives."
President Mbumba said these discussions have been both insightful and progressive, providing a solid foundation for future collaboration.
"I am particularly pleased with the timeliness of activities we have committed ourselves to for the implementation of outstanding matters from the Inaugural Session of the Botswana-Namibia Bi-National Commission (BNC). These initiatives will not only enhance the economic prosperity of our countries but also contribute to the overall development of our region."
President Masisi is also accompanied by Vice President Slumber Tsogwane, senior cabinet ministers, and First Lady Neo Jane, while senior cabinet ministers from Namibia, including Deputy Prime Minister John Mutorwa, also attended the talks.
