The National ICT Summit is set for September and will focus on digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI).
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Emma Theofelus officially launched the upcoming summit in Windhoek.
The event featured local and international stakeholders who presented their sponsorship contributions, underscoring their commitment to enhancing the summit's impact and success.
The summit, launched under the theme "Building Resilience to 'Adapt or Die' in the Era of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence," is set to take place from September 9–11.
The Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Modestus Amutse, said the summit allows for robust discussions on innovations and trials throughout the industry.
"This theme will allow us to learn about and embrace the digital transformation brought about by AI. We ought to work together and deliberate on how we can ensure that Namibia is one of the leading countries in digital evolution in Africa and that it is not left behind in artificial intelligence advancements."
On her part, ICT Minister Emma Theofelus said digital transformation and artificial intelligence are the driving forces reshaping societies, economies, and day-to-day lives.
She added that digital transformation enables society to reimagine business models, enhance public services, and create new employment opportunities.
"Artificial intelligence, a key component of this digital revolution, holds transformative power across various sectors. From healthcare and education to agriculture and finance, AI can enhance efficiency, drive innovation, and deliver improved outcomes. Yet, the integration of AI into systems must be approached with caution, ensuring ethical standards, transparency, and inclusivity. Building resilience in this era means equipping ourselves with tools, skills, and mindsets to not only survive but thrive amidst technological disruptions," said ICT Minister Emma Theofelus.
The minister called for collaborative efforts between the government, private sector, academia, and civil society to foster an ecosystem that supports continuous learning, innovation, and adaptation.
