The Landless People's Movement youth wing has petitioned the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform to repossess the Wisdom Youth Organisation Farm, situated outside Otavi, from a Chinese company.

They are calling for the building to be returned to the youth and stripped from the hands of the Haixwa family, who they say leased it out to the Chinese company.

During their protest, LPM MP Utaara Mootu demanded that the ministry reclaim the Wisdom Youth Organisation Farm from the Haixwa family, who allegedly leased it out to a Chinese company for N$6 million.

The agricultural farm was allocated to WIYO, a non-governmental organisation said to host a membership of over 25,000, in 2011.

"We urge the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform to reclaim the farm from Haixwa and his associates. Restoring it to its intended purpose of youth empowerment and agricultural development. Accountability for mismanagement. Hold Haixwa and all involved parties accountable, including the Chinese that ran away. They must be held accountable. How can they commit a crime in our country and they are just let go like that? What type of lost justice system do we have? They must be held accountable through the Chinese Embassy. Fair compensation. Ensure fair compensation for all dismissed employees and address any wrongful termination."

Aggrieved WIYO members expressed their unhappiness.

Farm Supervisor Freddy Haixwa, who is also the cofounder of WIYO, requested a private meeting with LPM. However, this was declined.

He accepted the demonstrators' petition.

"Here there are people from Lands. We want to talk to these people, or then you might look at another day or today—you can look for another day, so that we have the ministry of agriculture there and a response from the minister."

The modern farm is located east of Otavi.

It was set up in partnership with the Beijing HI Technology Energy Investment Company, aimed at contributing to national food security.
