President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed her satisfaction with the production activities of the Sikondo Green Scheme in the Kavango West Region.
Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah assesses the scheme's operations and impact on food security.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah is on a three-day visit to the Kavango West and East regions as part of her regional agricultural tour.
Her first stop was at the Sikondo Green Scheme, where she was briefed about the operations of the project in a closed-door meeting.
While touring the fields, the president encouraged the farm workers to redouble their efforts in order to ensure that food security is achieved.
"Those who are leaving town are fed by us who are living in the village, because food is produced in the village, not in town, so we are the ones leading the economy. Thank you very much."
The president ended her visit for the day at the Uvhungu-Vhungu Green Scheme in the Kavango East Region, where its manager, Floris Smith, gave an update.
"We have done a great job this year in comparison to the previous year. I promise we will have more production, and as we stand now, the farm is planted to the full capacity of the field, and everything is under maize production. We have no excuse to say we did not plant for other reasons. It is being planted. We have just stopped here for a quick view of the maize."
The president expressed gratitude for the efforts put into place at the Uvhungu-Vhungu green scheme.
The president has yet to visit the Shadikongoro, Ndongalinena, and Mashare green schemes in the Kavango East Region.
