A water crisis continues to plague residents of various informal settlements in Rundu, Kavango East Region.
The latest to cry over the lack of this resource are residents of the Tumweneni informal settlement, who claim to have been without water since March last year.
The residents say they collected money and bought pipes, and the council was supposed to help them connect the pipes to prepaid water metres.
They say the town council cut off their prepaid water metres, promising them a better water supply system. Representatives who came from the town council informed them that the council is busy drilling boreholes, which will supply enough water for everyone.
But up until now, they are yet to be informed of what is delaying the project.
At the moment, the residents collect water at the only prepaid metre tap, which at times, due to the low pressure, does not have running water.
Rundu Town Council CEO Olavi Nathanael says there is an eviction order for the people of Tumwene, hence the council cannot assist them.
The CEO further added that the town council never authorised any form of service to Tumweneni.
He says they could have obtained the prepaid water metre from a different project.
