The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) says it is concerned about the transition period of administrations, that is three months after elections are held.

President Nangolo Mbumba, however, says the matter should be dealt with by Parliament. 

Since the 1989 democratic elections, Namibia has witnessed an orderly transition of administrations, with the swearing-in of the winning candidate as president on independence day, three months after the announcement of the results.

PDM, however, says the three-month period has not presented major challenges due to candidates from one party securing the presidency for the last 34 years.

Of late, however, the matter has been a topic of discussion among the official opposition and other political actors.

The swearing-in of the president and the specific date of independence were decided on during the drafting of Namibia's Constitution in 1990.

Taking this into consideration, President Mbumba says proposals to change the status quo ought to be dealt with in Parliament.

The PDM leadership was at State House for a consultative meeting with President Mbumba on pertinent matters facing the country.
