Efforts to address the scourge of gender-based violence in Namibia will require collaboration to bring health services closer to those who need them the most.

This is particularly the case for women and girls who have endured trauma and indignity as a result of violence.

Gender-based violence remains a severe issue in many communities, causing harm and affecting many lives. 

Reports of assaults, rapes, and murders are alarmingly frequent, violating the dignity of Namibians. 

Women, children, and men alike are falling victim to these violent acts.

In this regard, the Government of Japan has donated health equipment to the Ministry of Health and Social Services and a mobile clinic van to the One Economy Foundation. 

This contribution forms part of the "Leave No One Behind" project in collaboration with UNFPA and will enhance the health ministry's ability to deliver essential sexual and reproductive health services to local communities.

These include education, counselling, and support that can empower individuals with vital information and resources to make informed choices about their bodies and their health.

The items donated comprise bed screens, cardio-topography machines, heart rate detectors, scales, and ultrasound scanners.

About 24,000 packs of sanitary pads, which will benefit 6,000 vulnerable adolescent girls across six regions, were also donated to the Education Ministry to help address period poverty. 

The donation is worth N$3.8 million.
