The Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat and key stakeholders are working towards promoting compliance and increasing the visibility of law enforcement along the corridor to deter unlawful behaviours and ensure a safe transit environment for all, amongst other objectives.

Speaking during the joint law enforcement operation at Gobabis in the Omaheke Region, the Deputy Director for Transportation and Policy in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Cynthia Haimbondi, stressed that law enforcement plays a crucial role in ensuring that roads are safe for all users.

Haimbondi also added that safety is not a destination but a journey embarked on every time one steps on the road.

"Together, let us make a conscious effort to obey traffic laws, respect speed limits, and prioritise the safety of ourselves and others. Each decision we make behind the wheel has the potential to save lives and prevent accidents. As we speak to the people travelling along the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, let us do so with a sense of responsibility, respect, and consideration for one another. Let's  strive to create a safer environment for all road users, and together we can make a difference."

The representative of the Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat, Reaginia Hamunjela, reiterated the importance of joint law enforcement when it comes to corridor operations.

"As this operation ensures that the Trans-Kalahari Corridor is safe and secure by promoting compliance, the joint law enforcement increases the visibility of law enforcement officers on the corridor and helps enforce laws and regulations to improve traffic safety and related transport regulations such as vehicle roadworthiness weight limits, and dangerous goods."

The Head of the Border Guard and Infrastructure Division, Saara Ueitele, reaffirmed the importance of shared commitment during the operation and to implement strategies for economic growth along the corridor.

"The Trans-Kalahari Corridor is more than just a route for the movement of goods and passengers; it represents a lifeline for trade connectivity and regional prosperity. Our mission today is clear: we must work collaboratively, pooling our resources and expertise, to effectively implement strategies, not only to uphold the law but to foster an environment in which economic growth can flourish."
