Governors from IIKharas and Hardap regions highlighted youth and infrastructure development as key priorities for their regions.

During recent State of the Region addresses, officials outlined plans for job creation, sport development, and facility upgrades.

In Kharas region in the south, Governor Aletha Frederick emphasized the importance of youth development through sport during her address on Wednesday, highlighting the annual Governor's Cup as a key initiative.

The annual Kharas Governor's Cup, held in Rosh Pinah, featured Soccer, Netball, and Rugby.

Approximately 270 participants from across the region took part in the event, which centers around youth development.

Governor Frederick acknowledged that Rosh Pinah Zinc and RoshKor were crucial to the tournament's success, playing a critical role in supporting the Office of the Governor and the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service throughout the planning and preparation of the tournament.

Frederick added that Rugby, a new addition to this year's cup, received N$71,000 in sponsorship from Total Energies, including full Rugby attire, balls, kicking tees, and line flags.

Numerous other stakeholders and partners contributed to the success of the Governor's Cup.

Meanwhile, Hardap Regional Governor Salomon April announced during his State of the Region Address that the ongoing renovation of the Youth Sport Stadium is expected to be completed before the end of 2024, with N$2 million allocated for the project.

The old youth center has been demolished for an amount of N$800,000.00 and the Youth Sports Stadium is under renovation for an amount of N$ 2 million, anticipated to be completed by the end of September 2024.

The renovated stadium is expected to create employment opportunities, enhance local sports experiences, and attract tourists and businesses to the region, thereby stimulating economic growth, according to Governor.
