The Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi, has announced a recess to accommodate the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
The decision aims to ensure that parliamentary business aligns with the public interest and respects standing rules and constitutional mandates.
The proposed adjournment will commence on Thursday, the 19th of September, and resume on the 28th of October.
This break will allow members of parliament to focus on their election campaigns and other related activities.
"To clarify, there was consideration of two options: resuming in the week of 21st October or the week of 28th October. After consulting with the Minister of Finance, who is also pressed for time, the preference is for the week of the 28th. This would allow us about a week to finish critical discussions, particularly the midterm budget before we close for the year," said Katjavivi.
