The Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Modestus Amutse, officially launched Namibia Film Week, delivering a message of pride and celebration in the art of local storytelling.
"The Film Week is an initiative that speaks directly to the very heart of our creative sector. Over the next four days, we will witness the powerful potential of storytelling through the screening of over 20 films, including short films, feature-length films, productions, and documentaries. These films serve as an insight into the experiences, aspirations, and challenges faced by people across our nation and beyond. This year's edition of Film Week is reaching exciting new heights. For the first time, we have opened the week to international submission. This expansion allows us to celebrate a greater diversity of voices and to build stronger connections with filmmakers worldwide."
The Namibia Film Week, an initiative aimed at uniting local filmmakers and audiences, has created a vibrant platform to showcase the dynamic landscape of the country's growing film industry.
The event is designed not only to entertain but to serve as a hub for professional growth and development.
The Managing Director of MultiChoice Namibia, Roger Gertze, in collaboration with the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation through the Mukurob project, was pleased to announce that smart partnerships foster growth.
"Namibian content is just as important, and for the first phase of our local content project, Mukurob is testimony to that for the first time in Namibian history, 13 locally produced films were featured on our DSTV, GoTV, and Showmax platforms."
A highlight of the event is the three-day Producer's Workshop, facilitated by award-winning South African producer and director Bianca Isaac of Figjam Entertainment.
Isaac, who was present at the opening ceremony, will lead the workshop and guide participants through an engaging and insightful exploration of the film industry, offering professional development opportunities.
In addition to film screenings, a variety of activities are planned throughout the weekend, including interactive panel discussions featuring seasoned industry experts.
