President Nangolo Mbumba has underscored that the future will not and cannot rest solely on well-crafted documents.

He says the true measure of success therefore lies in the effective implementation of the Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact, and the Declaration on Future Generations.

Dr. Mbumba addressed the closing session of the Summit of the Future-Action Days at the UN Headquarters on Saturday.

The Summit of the Future Action Days sought to generate additional opportunities for the engagement of all stakeholders and to amplify voices around priority themes.

The priority themes are in the areas of science, technology, and innovation; international peace and security; youth engagement and future generations; and sustainable development and financing. 

President Mbumba said the contributions during the Action Days have been instrumental in shaping both the debates and new commitments outlined in the Pact for the Future.

He said the conversations offered a foundation upon which UN member states can build as they move forward with the adoption of the Pact for the Future and its Annexes. 

The cogency of these documents is the implementation, much to the benefit of the world’s young population.

President Mbumba consequently urged the youth to be just as part of the process to implement the Pact of the Future effectively.

Among the actions listed under the draft document for the Pact of the Future is the call to promote effective engagement of young people in relevant United Nations intergovernmental bodies and processes.

The Summit of the Future Action Day 2 coincided with the International Day of Peace, observed annually on 21 September.
