The police's agricultural farm situated in the Omaheke Region, formerly known as Uichenas, has been renamed after retired Lieutenant General Raonga Jesaja Andima.
Andima was the second Inspector General of the Police.
At the renaming ceremony, Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo stressed that his predecessor served the nation with determination and passion, hence the recognition.
"The farm was purchased on 5 September 2015 at the value of N$14 million, hence, a decision was then taken by the Namibian Police Force management to rename Uichenas after the retired inspector general of the Namibian Police, Lt. Gen. Raonga Andima Police Farm. It is also imperative to highlight the additional investment that was made at the farm, which includes the installation of an electrical transformer, the connection of electricity from the transformer to the building rehabilitation of seven boreholes, a prefabricated barrack with four rooms, an office block with a boardroom, and ablution facilities."
Lieutenant General Shikongo added that another N$25 million was spent on the construction and renovation of the farm equipment.
The police chief said the farm will keep and safeguard impounded livestock that are subject to court cases, lost, and those that are forfeited to the state.
Retired Lieutenant General Raonga Andima was humbled at the gesture.
"This recognition is not solely mine; it represents the collective work of many men and women in uniform, whose dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order have made such milestones possible. As the second inspector general after the independence of our country, I had the privilege of serving alongside these brave individuals who are the true pillars of our nation's safety and security."
Andima joined the police on the 1st of February 1990 with the rank of an inspector and was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General the same year.
In 1992, Andima was elevated to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed as the Inspector General of the Police.
The newly commissioned Raonga Andima Police Farm will be headed by Deputy Commissioner Katrina Shiningavamwe.
