The Director of the Namibia Media Trust, Zoe Titus, has lauded the nbc for being a trendsetter.
This after the national broadcaster launched a TikTok news channel, highlighting the importance of using all available platforms, particularly social media, to reach diverse audiences.
Speaking at the Conference on the Future of Journalism Education, Free Expression, Advocacy, and Media and Information Literacy, Titus emphasised that embracing digital platforms like TikTok is vital for the future of journalism.
Titus said nbc is changing the narrative of how media influences the way people perceive the world around them.
"I have said this on many occasions: the media is struggling for its sustainability; the media is literally in freefall, and this notion of as a public hood must be unpacked so that people can understand that if something is considered a public good, it needs special protection. It needs protection from citizens, from journalists, and from the government."
The conference, which brought together various media stakeholders and experts, focused on the evolving landscape of journalism.
Social media use took centre stage, with discussions on how it has transformed the way news is consumed and delivered.
Tabani Moyo, Regional Director of the Media Institute of Southern Africa's Malawi chapter, shared insights on how the media landscape has evolved over the years, urging journalists to embrace the digital shift.
Peter Deselaers, Programme Director of Deutsche Welle Southern Africa, addressed the importance of credible journalism.
The conference underscored that while journalism is undergoing a transformation, its future remains bright as long as media professionals continue to adapt, innovate, and uphold the core values of truth, accuracy, and accountability.
