The Office of the Labour Commissioner faces a backlog of 1,003 unresolved labour-related cases, despite successfully closing 3,698 cases during the previous financial year.

On Monday, the office emphasised ongoing efforts to improve case management, including the potential establishment of an autonomous office—a move aimed at streamlining processes and reducing political intervention.

Michael Amushelelo, on Friday morning, set alight tyres in front of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Creation. 

The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) member has called out the Ministry, accusing it of neglecting critical issues affecting the nation’s workforce. On his social media platforms, Amushelelo said the ministry failed to uphold the provisions of the Labour Act, which mandates protection and fair treatment for all Namibian employees.
