The leader of the Popular Democratic Movement, McHenry Venaani, has promised to provide active jobs at sea to the Okapare Fishermen at Walvis Bay, should his party win the upcoming elections.

Venaani has further promised that his administration would construct desalination plants along the coast to overcome water problems and turn the desert green.

The PDM President held a star rally at Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay. He acknowledged the problems plaguing residents at the harbour town.

The ex-fishermen group known as the 'Okapare Fishermen', who have complained repeatedly about not having active jobs at sea, would see their plight prioritised, Venaani said.

"Send back our fishermen to the sea. My government in the first 100 days of my government, if I win on the 27th of November, the fishermen will regain their place in the sea. Corruption or no corruption, the fishermen will go back to the sea."

Venaani assured residents of the Erongo Region that the party would resolve issues of water shortage.

"I visited Spitzkoppe, Tubusis, Okombahe—you can name them—Otjmbingwe—all the villages in Erongo; rural Erongo has no water. The people of Erongo have no water; the water problem at Spitzkoppe is worse. I have never seen something like that. Schoolchildren are leaving classes to go get water from their parents because there is no water. My administration shall develop desalination plants; we will bring water from the sea, clean the salt, and pump the water up to Ohangwena, up to Okavango. This water can make the country green; the whole desert, 100,000 hectares, will be turned into irrigation farms so that we create food security for our people."

Venaani noted that his party will spend 10% of the GDP to boost agriculture and create jobs for the people.

Venaani stressed that he would have all deals for natural resources renegotiated to ensure a 50% value addition to Namibia's minerals and ensure better revenues for the nation.

The PDM also remains adamant that it can ensure one plot for each Namibian and at least one toilet for each family.

Venaani urged young people who are the majority of registered voters to come out in numbers and vote for his party.

"If you want to economically liberate yourself, 2024 is our 1989; go out in numbers, throng the queues, stand, stay the course, and vote for change. What has happened in Botswana is on its way to Namibia, but only you can be able to implement that change, and we can only implement it at the ballot; no other indicators."
