Namibia experienced two earthquakes over the weekend, recorded by the Namibian seismological network and nearby seismic stations in South Africa, the Ministry of Mines and Energy reported.

The first earthquake occurred around 9:00 AM on Saturday, 27 kilometers southwest of Gross Barmen near Okahandja, registering a magnitude of 3.7. A second, more intense tremor struck early Sunday morning, 10 kilometers southwest of Opuwo, with a magnitude of 4.2. Both quakes occurred at shallow depths, increasing the likelihood they were felt on the surface.

Following these events, Senior Public Relations Officer Anna Salkeus issued safety guidelines, advising residents to seek shelter under sturdy tables if indoors and to maintain a safe distance from buildings and power lines when outside.

While Namibia's seismic activity is infrequent and typically mild, the ministry stressed the importance of earthquake preparedness to safeguard the public.
