The Head of Finance and Administration at the Okakarara Vocational Training Centre, Gift Kerii, said vocational training has the power to propel Namibia's industrialisation efforts and add value to its natural resources through value addition.

According to Kerii, there is nothing that happens under the sun that does not require some sort of vocational education and training.

He said TVET is thus the solution to unemployment.

He encouraged young Namibians to apply to Okakarara VTC to learn real life-changing skills.

The centre, he said, looks forward to opening an incubation hub where mentorship will be offered to graduates.

"We really encourage the young Namibians out there to please apply to OVTC, to come and to get real life-changing skills that will transform your life, that will equip you to go out there, and not only to be a job seeker but to be a job creator. Because I think TVET is not about being an employee, but it's about being a job creator. And that is what we also, as the theme for OVTC, are driving our graduates to be entrepreneurs. This year we hosted an entrepreneurship week, where."

The Okakarara VTC is one of the oldest vocational training centres, opened in 1977.

The centre offers a variety of vocational courses such as bricklaying and plastering, ICT, cosmetology, clothing production, welding, and metal fabrication, among others.
