The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security is happy with the progress made with the construction of the Home Affairs office building at Katima Mulilo.
The flagship project will accommodate departments dealing with civil registration and immigration.
The Executive Director of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Etienne Maritz, says there has been so much progress in the initial phase of the construction, and they are confident that the contractors will complete the work within the agreed period of eighteen months.
Maritz said there are other exciting projects in the pipeline for the Zambezi Region, such as the Greenwell Matongo Police Station in Katima.
"We have also identified Katima Farm, where we are busy developing the farm; that is the Namibian Correctional Service, and you will see development in the region, and within the next three years we will complete all these projects."
The Home Affairs delegation, including Minister Albert Kawana, visited various ministry projects and facilities.
The Police Inspector General, Joseph Shikongo, said the police are committed to improving the facilities where they are operating, with various construction projects being rolled out throughout the country.
Lieutenant General Shikongo noted that the region has completed various successful projects, such as police posts at Singalamwe and Kalimbeza, while others are in the pipeline.
"We flew to other areas where we are intending to put up some structures; one of them is Cheto, and from Cheto we went to Susuwe; those are the areas we are looking at. So as we were flying along, there is also a project of demining and debushing the border area, so now you can drive all the way from Beacon 1 here in Katima to Beacon 9 at Singalamwe."
Shikongo says the Namibian Police is committed to ensuring that the working and accommodation environment for police officers are conducive.
