Some residents of Aminuis have expressed dissatisfaction with the distribution of drought relief aid, which they believe does not adequately address the needs of people in the area.

Livestock farming, particularly cattle, goats, and sheep, is the mainstay of the local economy, with many residents engaging in subsistence agriculture.

The area’s remoteness and limited access to markets pose challenges to economic development.

Simeon Kauaaka, a Traditional Councillor of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority, highlighted the insufficiency of the current drought relief subsidies provided to farmers.

He also lamented the absence of a protective fence in Aminuis to prevent cattle from wandering onto roads, a measure he said was only implemented in other towns.

As a result, car accidents involving livestock continue to claim lives, with the financial and emotional burden falling solely on farmers, who face the loss of both their cattle and the associated penalties, he said.
