Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein, is worried about the progress of the Rundu Water Treatment Plant in the Kavango East Region.
Once operational, the Rundu Water Treatment Plant is expected to bring an end to the town's water crisis.
The actual physical progress of the plant stands at 23%, and Namwater admits that they are behind schedule.
Team leader and engineer Edwardo Revalo said they are behind schedule due to unforeseen circumstances such as difficult soil conditions, adding that the amount of excavation on site doubled.
Asked what their catch-up plan is, Revalo said they will deal with the delay by doubling the resources on the ground and adding more work hours.
Even though the project is 76 days behind schedule, Revalo said they should be able to catch up by February 2025 and that the delay will not affect the project's total cost.
The Rundu Water Treatment Plant is worth more than N$660 million, and it is expected to be completed by 31 December 2025.
Schlettwein is accompanied by representatives from NamWater and regional leadership to assess the status of various construction projects.
Apart from the Water Treatment Plant, they will also be checking out the Kayengona Army Base and Mupini Pipelines.
