As the festivities heat up, Omaruru Municipality has treated over 100 elderly people and people with disabilities to an early Christmas lunch and gifts.
The annual event was graced by the Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Evelyn !Nawases-Taeyele.
!Nawases-Taeyele acknowledged the senior citizens' and people with disabilities' contributions to society, despite their different abilities.
"To our elders, the role you play in society is priceless. You are like roots that anchor a tree, providing strength and stability. You are the pillars that hold our families together. Similarly, people living with disabilities have shown great resilience, contributing to their families and communities in ways that are often unacknowledged. Your strength, determination, and spirit are an inspiration to all of us."
Omaruru Mayor Vincent Kahua says the annual event brings smiles to their faces while reminding them of how important they are to society.
"It is worth noting that people who have reached a certain stage in life are deserving of a certain level of honor. Old age suggests the accrual of significant life experience, and thus we should not forget to extend our commitment and protection to the elderly."
Taeyele led the gathering in song.
At the event, many of the elderly thanked the government for the monthly grants they receive as well as subsidies for their municipal bills.
