Swakopmund remains a favourite holiday destination for both locals and international tourists, and the town is once again geared to attract hundreds of visitors.
It is against this backdrop that the municipality and the Special Reserve Forces aim to ensure that everyone remains safe.
In order to maintain peace and order over the holiday season, the Special Reserve Force has officially arrived in Swakopmund and will be working around the clock.
Erongo Police and the Municipality of Swakopmund have partnered to ensure the safety of every resident and visitor.
The Council is reminding everyone to cooperate to create a memorable and incident-free holiday season.
Swakopmund Mayor Blasius Goraseb sent a strong warning against perpetrators and chance takers to comply with the law.
"You can see we have increased the number of forces. Boots on the ground, we are very excited our visitors will now enjoy a safe festive season. We have received some support from Windhoek in terms of the number of officers. We will now patrol the beach areas. We will be patrolling our residential areas closely. There will be a serious policy happening in Swakopmund over the next few days, so all the perpetrators and those people who are outside the law be warned: there are some serious forces around so that we can ensure the safety and security of our visitors. Thank you very much. I hope and pray that you'll comply so that we don't lock you up over the season."
Erongo Community Affairs Head, Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, also called on the holidaymakers to comply with the laws.
"Just to inform the public, it's again the festive season. It's a time when everybody has to come together; everyone has to celebrate and enjoy, and we are spending the year in that positive spirit. The police have already received a reinforcement, and we are very grateful to every party that was involved. We are grateful to the municipality and the community members who are joining us to support our law enforcement agencies. We want to remind the public that we are going to enforce the law as faithfully as it is. We are not here to punish people. We are there to police and make sure that they are safe, and if you find yourself on the other side of the law, unfortunately, we have to get you."
