Police in the Kunene Region have launched the first phase of their festive season operation, dubbed Rain Bowl, to enhance public safety, order, and security throughout the holiday period.

The operation is part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure festive season for both residents and visitors.

Kunene Region Police Commander, James Nderura, described Rain Bowl as a multi-faceted operation, with a focus on visible policing, community engagement, and cooperation between local law enforcement and residents.

"The primary objective of this operation is as follows: to protect lives and property, to prevent crime and ensure an increase of effective police visibility in the entire region, to maintain law and order, to conduct intelligent government operation, and to enhance road safety of motor vehicle accidents."

Commissioner Nderura also issued a strong message to police station commanders across the region, urging them to always be ready and prepared to act swiftly when they are called.

He stressed that commanders should be proactive and ready for any situation at all times.

"Station commanders, you have to make sure that members are deployed, and the area has to be patrolled. You have to visit all hotspots in your respective station areas. It is not a matter of the regional commander; when you hear the regional commander is in the area, you start putting people, you start putting up roadblocks. That is your daily activity; you're supposed to plan on your own. You're the station commander; the station commander is in charge of the station area, and then you have to plan for yourself. We don't want you to be constantly running around during our visits.

Commissioner Nderura called on the community to actively collaborate with law enforcement in ensuring public safety throughout the holidays.
