The Swapo Party's Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa has labelled the Landless People’s Movement’s (LPM) challenge to the National Assembly elections a “wild fishing expedition” with no evidence to support its claims.

In a replying affidavit filed with the Electoral Court, Shaningwa says the LPM formed part of the parties that were granted permission to inspect sensitive election material last year but have not found any evidence to support their case.

“This is nothing more than a desperate ploy driven by dissatisfaction with the election results,” she said.

Shaningwa’s affidavit points out "procedural flaws" in LPM’s application, including delays in filing and failure to respond to specific paragraphs of the IPC’s founding affidavit.

Shaningwa also criticises LPM for failing to address specific allegations in IPC’s founding affidavit, saying their lack of clarity shows the weakness of their case: "It is unclear which claims LPM accepts or disputes, further exposing the flaws in their arguments," Shaningwa stated.
