The Inspector General of the Namibian Police has announced the introduction of two new subjects for recruits currently undergoing training.

Lieutenant-General Joseph Shikongo revealed on Friday that stress and financial management will be incorporated to better prepare future members of the police force.

Addressing new recruits at the Simon Mutumba Police Training Centre, Shikongo pointed out that many officers struggle with making sound financial decisions, which is why the subject will now be part of the training curriculum.

He also spoke to the recruits about the importance of familiarising themselves not only with the constitution but also with the Police Act and other related laws on safety and security.

He reminded them to always serve the community with integrity and professionalism.

Lieutenant General Shikongo announced some recruits will participate in work-integrated training and report to various duty stations in February, while others will undergo intensive specialisation training at the Omaheke Region Training Centre.

The 208 recruits at the Simon Mutumba Training Centre are part of a larger group of about 1,500 recruits who are expected to graduate in May this year.
