The family of two toddlers who died in a fire at Oshikulufitu village in the Omusati region is appealing for financial support to bury the children.
It is alleged that the siblings, aged one and three, were alone at home when the incident occurred.

Their grandmother was working in the mahangu field at the time.
Reports suggest that after waking up, the children went to a hut where the family usually cooks. It is suspected that the three-year-old boy lit the thatched grass roof, causing the fire to spread rapidly and trapping them inside.

Upon noticing thick smoke, their grandmother rushed to rescue them. The children were initially taken to Outapi State Hospital and later transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Their grandfather, Damascus Amutenya, is appealing to Namibians for assistance with funeral arrangements, as the children’s 20-year-old mother is unemployed and the family relies on pension payouts for survival.

The deceased have been identified as Imene Nauta, a three-year-old boy, and Alina Kakunde, a one-year-old girl.
