Cuban residents in Namibia paid tribute to one of their country’s nationalists and philosophers, José Marti, in Windhoek today.

Marti, born on the 28th of January, 1853, and died on the 19th of May, 1895, became a symbol of Cuba’s struggle for independence.

At the occasion, Cuban Ambassador to Namibia Sergio Vigoa de la Uz noted that Marti’s tribute has managed to unite all Cubans wherever they are for the cause of Cuba’s freedom.

He added that there is no better ideal to follow in these turbulent times, especially with the growing threats from the north to the Cuban people.

Cecilia Muzile, Secretary General of the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association, reiterated Namibia's support for Cuba's removal from the U.S. "state sponsors of terrorism" list, which the country was recently added back to.

Attendees paid homage to Martí with music inspired by his poems, as he was also a renowned poet.
