European investment in Namibia is growing, with Finland, France, and Spain strengthening economic ties in key sectors. Their ambassadors recently shared updates on their commitments, highlighting efforts in energy, mining, education, and industry.

Finnish Ambassador Leena Viljanen emphasized Finland’s strong interest in Namibia’s green energy transition, particularly in solar, wind, biofuels, and hydropower. Finland is also investing in sustainable mining and circular economy solutions, such as recycling and waste-to-energy projects. Education remains a key pillar of cooperation.

French Ambassador Cécil Vigneau noted that while trade volumes between France and Namibia remain modest, investment is thriving. Twenty French companies, under the Franco-Namibian Business Association, are active in green hydrogen, oil exploration, water treatment, waste management, hospitality, and maritime logistics.

Spain’s Ambassador Alberto de la Calle highlighted Spain’s deep-rooted role in Namibia’s fishing sector for over 30 years. Spanish companies helped shape the industry in the early 1990s and contributed to Lüderitz’s growth as a fishing hub.

The ambassadors stressed that their countries are committed to long-term partnerships, creating jobs, developing local skills, and ensuring sustainable investments that benefit both Namibia and their respective nations.
