Almost three weeks have passed since Namibia's most daring and violent diamond heist at NAMDIA, yet an eerie silence hangs over the case.
Authorities have gone dark, offering no new details, and there is no word on whether the stolen gems, possibly worth hundreds of millions, have been recovered.
Among the unanswered questions is how the suspects gained entry.
It was on January 18 when a group of armed men stormed NAMDIA’s high-security headquarters in Windhoek, executing what appeared to be a well-planned operation.
Chaos, however, erupted as bullets flew, and by the time the dust settled, two men were dead. Francis “Gosh” Eiseb, a senior security officer, lay lifeless, tied up, and his head covered with a plastic shopping bag, and one suspect turned a gun on himself.
Another two, Joel Angula and Sam Shololo, were arrested and are being held at the Windhoek Correctional Facility.
Meanwhile, media reports suggest that the police had warned NAMDIA months before the attack.
