The 5th Session of the Namibia/Nigeria Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation met in Windhoek on Wednesday to explore various areas of possible cooperation between the two nations.
The Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation serves as a platform for the two nations to review bilateral cooperation and explore possible areas of cooperation.
Deputy Executive Director in Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Sabine Bohlke-Moller, says that the session is a vital platform giving concrete meaning to developing tangible deliverables in various sectors.
"Nigeria's government's efforts to promote socio-economic development for the general well-being of the Nigerian people are impressive. To this effect, your country launched the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP) and the National Enterprise Development Programme, which is a comprehensive roadmap for transforming your nation's development efforts. Namibia also shares a similar vision of transforming Namibia into a prosperous and industrialised nation, developed by her own people and her own resources. This vision requires a collective approach from private businesspeople and through bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Hence, the JPCC will provide both countries with an opportunity to enhance and deepen socio-economic cooperation."
The discussions that will be held over the next two days will explore avenues of collaboration in areas such as fisheries, agriculture, service delivery, healthcare, investment promotion and protection as well as trade among others.
"As we embark on this deliberation, I urge us all to engage in open, structured, and forward-looking discussions, not just for the benefit of Nigeria and Namibia, but for the prosperity of our respective regions, the African continent, and the entire global system. Let us unearth Nigeria's compelling investment attributes and the strong foundation of our bilateral relations to be the enduring partnership that will drive sustainable development and shared prosperity," says Co-chairperson of the Nigerian delegation, Bolaji Akenremi.
The meeting will give the two nations an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment in strengthening ties and improving social and economic development within the countries.
