All People's Party (APP) President Ambrosius Kumbwa expressed that, although he never had the chance to meet Dr. Sam Nujoma in person, he has always found inspiration in his story.
Kumbwa first learned about Dr. Nujoma from his father when he was a young boy.
Years later, while in high school, he joined the student organization NANSO, motivated largely by Dr. Nujoma’s courage.
Now a retired teacher, Kumbwa will always remember the founding father's commitment to ensuring that Namibians received an education, even while in exile.
He credits himself as a product of the “Let’s Speak English” literacy program for novice teachers, which began after independence. Before liberation, Afrikaans was the primary language of instruction, and many teachers had to learn English afterward.
Kumbwa emphasizes that Namibians can learn from the late founding president the importance of perseverance in the face of challenges and the value of taking education seriously.
