A traditional priest of the otji-Mungunda clan, Vetara Mungendje at Toasis in the Aminuis Constituency, has said that the late Dr. Sam Nujoma has done immeasurable work in this country and was very close to his late uncle Ombara Hosea Kutako.

Today, Kutako is a well-known figure globally and is credited as the father of Namibia's independence struggle.

Traditional priest Vetara Mungendje narrated that his late uncle Ombara Hosea Kutako saw a unique potential in Dr. Sam Nujoma while he was very young.

Nujoma visited Kutako at Toasis seeking his blessing to go and liberate the country.

Mungendje said that his uncle did not hesitate to pass on all needed blessings at the time to the late First President of Namibia, Dr. Sam Nujoma, including giving him one of his walking sticks.

The traditional priest added this has led to Nujoma forming a formidable and strong relationship with the Ovaherero people through Hosea Kutako.

Furthermore, Mungendje said that one cannot eulogise the late Nujoma without mentioning Ombara Kutako.

Mungendje said that Toasis and the Omaheke Region carry fond memories of Dr. Nujoma; hence, it's time to take this sombre moment and reflect on what he has done for this country.

"Nujoma demonstrated political potential at a young age, which my uncle recognised. As a result, the late Ombara Kutako selected him and others for the mission of liberating the country, with the blessing of the old man who was in charge of all the tribes in this country. The fact that he came from a different tribe did not bother him. All he wanted was someone brave, and he was sent for a big assignment."

Another descendant of the Kutako family, Kejamuina Mungendje, pointed out that modern developments at Toasis have been the dream of Dr. Sam Nujoma, although it happened to be completed under the leadership of the late Dr. Hage Geingob.

"He went through here and the good structures, the museum and all the structures here, and the ritual house where we are sitting, it was all one of his ideas. At the time he came here, the peer group had a plan to source funds, and he even donated N$5,000 and said that when this materialised, he would like to be here at the inauguration."

Mungendje stated that the Mungunda clan will remember individuals such as Dr. Sam Nujoma and Dr. Hage Geingob for their contributions to honouring the late patriarch, Ombara Hosea Kutako.
