A memorial service in honour of the late Namibian leader was held at the Namibia High Commission in Accra, Ghana, to reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Sam Nujoma, the first President of Namibia.
Mourners gathered to remember a leader whom they described as having given dignity to Africans through his exemplary life and leadership.
João Domingos Baptista Quiosa, the Ambassador of Angola to Ghana, spoke at the event.
Quiosa encourages those gathered not to mourn the late Nujoma but to rather celebrate him as he spoke about Angola-Namibia post-independence relations.
Samia Nkrumah, the daughter of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, also shared her thoughts.
Nkurumah said she felt honoured to have met Dr. Nujoma in 2010 during his visit to Ghana.
She added that he had visited Ghana many times and was not a stranger to her country.
When they met, Dr. Nujoma told her about his first meeting with her father, the late President Nkrumah.
Rui Livramento, a representative from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, commended Dr. Nujoma’s leadership.
He said that Dr. Nujoma's efforts had made a huge impact on Africa’s development, peace, stability, and democratic governance.
Kwesi Pratt, the Secretary-General of the Socialist Movement of Ghana, also spoke at the memorial.
The memorial service in Ghana was a tribute to Nujoma's role in shaping the continent and his Pan-African philosophy.
