To reduce financial burden on Namibians when seeking health services, Cabinet has approved the policy on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) aimed at ensuring that all citizens have adequate access to healthcare.

Achieving universal health coverage by 2030 is a shared vision for all United Nations member states.

The Namibian Cabinet, to ensure that all citizens receive good health service, recently approved the Policy on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which aims to ensure that all citizens can have access to healthcare without financial hardship.

"The first Cabinet decision is around the universal health coverage policy for the Republic of Namibia. Cabinet approved the policy on universal health coverage for Namibia, with the main objective to ensure that all Namibians in all parts of the country are able to access the healthcare they need at all times without suffering financial catastrophe. Cabinet further directed the Ministry of Works and Transport, being the convener, the Minister of Health and Social Services, the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises, and the National Planning Commission to develop and implement funding modalities for the above-mentioned policy and submit a report to cabinet for endorsement. The interministerial committee may go up to any other relevant stakeholders."

These decisions were issued at the second 2025 decision-making meeting by the Cabinet in the capital.
