After three weeks of mourning, which included regional memorials with the remains of Dr. Sam Nujoma, Namibians, joined by international dignitaries including Heads of State, laid the Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation, Dr. Sam Nujoma, to rest at the Heroes' Acre.

A 21-gun salute, the highest military honour, befitting the man who committed his life to the good of the nation.

The curtain came down on a leader who dedicated his life to the liberation of his people and was laid to rest at the final resting place of Namibia's heroes and heroines.

Namibians lined up along the roads leading to Heroes Acre to say their final goodbyes to the Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation, Dr. Sam Nujoma. 

Some stayed up until the wee hours of Saturday morning while the body lay in state at the Independence Stadium, singing liberation songs and hymns.

President Nangolo Mbumba said Dr. Nujoma has completed his mission and is leaving Namibians with the precious gift of freedom and independence.

Three African Heads of State attended the burial of the late Dr. Nujoma at the Heroes' Acre.

President of Angola and Chairperson of the African Union João Lourenço, President of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of SADC Emmerson Mnangagwa, and President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.
