The spokesperson at NAMDIA, Beverley Coussement, says that N$40.6 million worth of diamonds out of the total N$314.9 million taken during a robbery have been recovered.

This leaves about N$274.3 million worth of diamonds unaccounted for.

NAMDIA was robbed in daylight on January 18, resulting in the deaths of two people, one from alleged suicide and another suspected of having been murdered.

Coussement, in a statement, says that in response to the incident, NAMDIA has implemented security upgrades to prevent future breaches.

She said that while specific details cannot be disclosed, the company confirms that measures have been executed urgently and in line with international best practices.

Additionally, essential repairs were carried out on the premises to address damage from the robbery, ensuring a safe working environment. Staff who had been working remotely since January 20 returned to the office in full on March 3, she said.

NAMDIA has also launched an independent internal investigation, with the Board appointing a Security Consultant to oversee security stabilisation and the implementation of critical enhancements.

As part of the internal probe, the company last month suspended its CEO, Alisa Amupolo; COO, Uahoroka Kauta; and Security Manager, Paulinus Sheyapo.

Coussement again emphasised that the suspension of its executive members is to ensure a thorough and impartial review.

At this stage, she said there is no indication that any additional staff members, apart from the protection officer already arrested, were involved in the robbery.

Sam Shololo and Joel Angula, a protection officer at NAMDIA, have been arrested and face multiple charges, among them a charge of murder. They are to appear at the Windhoek Magistrates Court on May 23.
