Grieving families buried victims of a devastating fire in Bukavu, eastern DRC, on Monday, after the blaze killed at least 29 people, most of them schoolchildren, and injured dozens.

Footage shows coffins lined up inside a church as families weep before mourners carry the victims to a cemetery for burial.

Local reports say the fire started in a nearby house before spreading rapidly to the Ujamaa and Furaha schools, where children were caught in the blaze.

At least 29 pupils were killed and 25 others injured. The fire destroyed the two schools and around 300 surrounding homes.

The disaster struck Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu province, as conflict and displacement continue across eastern DRC.
