The University of Namibia (UNAM) has celebrated the graduation of its first group of 52 students from the School of Diplomatic Studies.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, highlighted the significance of the school in shaping future diplomats.

Dr. Mushelenga alluded to Namibia's commitment to multilateralism, rooted in its history of international support during independence.

"This is the platform that addresses international complexities, fosters international cooperation, and enhances national economies within the framework of their linkage to the global fiscal and economic markets. To effectively thrive in the international political system and make a meaningful contribution to the global political agenda, one needs to know the operation of multilateral institutions. I am, thus, delighted to note that the training at this school covers regional and international organisations."

Graduates received certificates in the fields of International Relations, Nambia's International Cooperation Policy and Management of International Relations.

Dr Mushelenga expressed satisfaction with the success of the programme.

"I am pleased to note that the three intakes have an average pass rate of about 92%. This is the same percentage of the completion rate for the Diplo Academy, a renowned world-class institute in Malta, for the 2024 academic year. This demonstrates that the Namibia School of Diplomatic Studies is becoming a centre of excellence in diplomatic training."

The school offers credit-bearing short courses at the NQF Level 7 bachelor's level, equipping students with practical skills essential for success in international relations.

Developed locally by in-house experts, these courses have strengthened the school's reputation for producing highly skilled graduates ready to take on roles in global diplomacy, policy-making, and international cooperation.

The school will soon introduce postgraduate programmes to provide students with advanced studies in diplomacy and international relations.
